'Transference: A Love Story' is a bipolar love story about control. The film received the SRFF 2020's Jury Prize for Narrative Feature and global attention after going viral on YouTube, where it has been viewed over 26 million times.

'Transference' is a bipolar love story of two immigrant nurses, one of whom has a secret that threatens to implode their passionate love affair. The film explores themes of emotional isolation, denial, cultural displacement and mental illness and features a strong female cast, including Lotte Verbeek ('Outlander', 'The Blacklist'), Simone Lahbib (Da Vinci's Demons', 'Philomena') and Christina Chong ('Star Trek: Strange New Worlds').

The film draws influence from director Raffaello Degruttola's difficult relationship with his father, who struggled with bipolar disorder throughout his life. With the help of our partners at Mental Ideas we were able to reach a global community of people affected by bipolar disorder and take part in empowering focus groups, panel discussions, support groups, podcasts and other community events providing creative inspiration.
